Stock market investing refers to the buying and selling of stock for the purpose of making money. Stocks are sometimes also called ‘equities’ or ‘shares.’ A stock is ownership in a company. There are over 3500 stocks in the US that anyone who can pay for the cost of that stock, can own. Owning stock makes you a partial owner of that company!
What is the stock market?
The stock market is a ‘marketplace’ where shares of ownership in different companies can be bought and sold. The prices of the individual stocks go up and down, similar to the way the price of gas can change from day to day.
These changes in value can allow investors to ‘buy low, sell high,’ and thus make a profit off of their money being put to work.
